How the styled text works
Discord shows text in one font, and nobody can change it. Styled text is a trick: Unicode has whole alphabets of letters that look like script, gothic, bold and other styles, and this page swaps each letter you type for its look-alike. What you copy is ordinary text, so it works wherever Discord lets you type.
Nothing is sent anywhere. The styling happens in your browser, and you can go back to plain text with the Plain button at any time.
Where it works well
Titles, server names, channel names, nicknames and the first line of a message are the best places for styled text. A short line in script or small caps stands out without shouting.
Symbols are the same idea: sparkles, hearts, brackets, dividers and arrows are all plain characters, so you can paste them next to your text and they show on every device.
What to know before you use it
Styled letters are different characters, so a search for "welcome" will not find "๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ต๐ฌ๐ธ๐ถ๐ฎ", and a screen reader may read each letter by its long Unicode name. Use it for a title or a word or two, and keep the important rules and instructions in plain text.
Some fonts have no look-alike for a few characters (superscript has no q, for example). Those characters are left as they are, so nothing is lost.
Make it part of your server
If you run a community, you can do this inside your server settings instead of copying and pasting. Kiwora puts the same fonts and symbols next to every text field of your welcome message, rules, announcements and other posts, with a live preview of how it looks in Discord.
